The #1 Strategy To Make A Breakthrough With Any Client (Or Within Yourself)

I'm incredibly passionate about you creating a Satiated Life and if you're a coach or wellness professional, supporting your clients in creating their own Satiated Lives. What supports a person in feeling satiated, satisfied, and nourished is going to be unique to each and every individual. Have you noticed though how many articles there are saying how to eat, how to take care of your body, and what you're "supposed" to do to thrive?

How can we ever cultivate a trusting relationship with ourselves with all of these conflicting messages we receive externally?

Today I wanted to offer the #1 strategy I utilize with my own clients, myself, and teach every coach in my mentorship.

Make everything, and I really mean everything, your client is doing "right."

Overeating? Fantastic! Explore how that was the best decision they could have made in that moment. Meeting you with resistance? Awesome! Welcome that resistance into the session and explore what it is here to teach you and your client. Sat on the couch watching Netflix for a week? Wonderful! Talk about how that time supported your client in some way.

One of the things that perpetuates a pattern we want to change is judging the habit we're in. For example, there are certain foods I know don't digest well in my body. If I tell myself though that eating that food is wrong or bad or that I can't have it, what do you think happens? All I want to do is eat that food! If I tell myself I can have that food whenever I want, I put the power in me and less in some external thing that I get to choose what is going to be best for me. And then, like magic, I no longer really want that food. Slowing down and tuning in, I get to discover that I don't want to feel the way that food makes me feel and I can only have that clarity if I take the label off of every food, every habit, every pattern.

There can be a cycle that gets set up that if we tell ourselves we shouldn't have done something or we judge a habit we continue to play out, we then feel horrible in our body. We're judging our actions, we then feel perhaps shame and guilt, this feels intense to navigate so we engage in the unsatiating act again to support with navigating our emotional reaction. To break this cycle and start making forward progress with your clients (or within yourself) we have to make everything that we do the best act we could have done. We can't change the past. What can be in our control is how we reflect on what has occurred with compassion to experience the wisdom in our actions and reactions. From that place of empathetic self understanding, can our subsequent actions start to shift and change.

When we make everything we do "right"…

then we can start to notice and observe what feels best to our unique body, mind, and soul. If there was no such thing as a "wrong" food, body, shape, action, then what is left? Its media and social media that have shaped these messages that there is a right and wrong way to be. If we let this go what is left is tuning in and relying on ourselves to know what is going to support our unique body in thriving. If you're a coach or wellness professional, this path all starts with getting curious about every act your client engages in and how their pattern is serving them in some way.

If you feel like you're struggling to make breakthroughs with your clients and deeply care about their health and wellbeing, I want to make sure you're aware of my mentorship for coaches.
